My painting in watercolor has become more dramatic because I tangled some motives in black between the white strokes. I’ve drawn an aura around Borbz with a thicker pen (0,8 mm). Also before drawing Misst, I used black colour to become more contrast. Here en there, I also redifined the line on Printemps with a thicker black pen. With black Rain and AHH, I finished my painting.

Vielen Dank Anja. Last year I followed a few lessons of aquarel painting. To make real paintings with this technique is difficult but to use the watercolors just as a background is not difficult at all. It gives always unexpected and nice results. I like to do that and in the future I’m going to do that more.

What a wonderful tile! I love the watercolored background and the white Msst on the black patch makes quite a dramatic statement. The tangles you chose work well in the spaces of color that you have. So your “bit-o-black” had an appropriate effect of a little drama on this piece. I really love it!

  4. 43

Beautyful watercolor background…with the tangles on it, it remembers me on a lakeside with flying dandelion. I would love to take a walk there touching your tangles ;). Did you plan that it should look like landscape or is it coincidence?

      Ria Matheussen says:

Thank you for your kind words.
A few months ago, I followed some lessons” painting with watercolor.” We had to paint different strokes of watercolor and between leaving white spaces.
When I thought about this exercise, I liked to fill the white spaces with tangles and I add also a few tangles on the watercolor, so in fact it is a coincidence.
I’m glad you like the result

It is not so difficult to make backgrounds with watercolor. Sometimes you can get nice unexpected results I really like. Just looking for a few tangles and it is O.K.
I’m pleased you like this tile, thank you for your kind words.

Ooh! Those are the most gorgeous AHH’s I’ve seen and the white Msst on black is genius!

    • 38
      Ria Matheussen says:

Thank you Julie. In fact this tangle you like is not AHH but a lookalike from Maria Perez Tovar from Spain and she called it Madrono, but I don’t think he is on the official site of Linda Farms. Thank you that you like Msst on the black. I drawed that because I didn’t like that piece where I put Fescu on, so the easiest way was to make it black and put another tangle on it: Msst!.

I love this! What is the tangle in the “sky” called? It looks like fireworks. The colors are great and the extra black makes for great contrasts.

On the page of Zentangle patterns you find AHH, but I also have a book of Beate Winkler and there I find this pattern Madrono, designed by Maria Perez Tovar from Spain. It looks a bit like AHH but I like this more. Thank you for your nice words.

Ria, your Diva challenge art is very pleasing. How big is it? I can imagine it hanging on a wall, but if it’ 3/5 inches by 3.5 inches, I guess that could be a problem. 😉

Thank you for your detailed comment on my blog post. I had the same experience you did leaving Europe two weeks ago. Security was more intense in Manchester, England than it had been in Philadelphia on the way over. Given Europe’s recent devastating experiences with terrorism in Paris and Brussels, I suppose this is not all that surprising. I’m glad your trip to the US was a good one.

A time ago, I followed a few lessons how to use watercolor and I wanted to combine Zentangle with these technique. Using watercolours as a background is not so difficult and can give very surprising results.
I have made 4 cards like this, they will appear next weekend on my blog. So they are not so big (like postcards). It was very amusing to do this.

Your tile looks really fantastic! I love your watercolored background and the tangles you used fit perfectly 🙂 The black you added makes it more special and I love your “Misst in black” 😉 Great tile!

I didn’t like the piece where I put Fescu on, therefore I just painted it black and afterwards I drew there Misst on.
So you see: In Zentangle we can’t make misttakes, when something goes wrong another opportunity appears!”
I’m very glad you like especially that part, thank you for the compliment!

I love this tile, Ria! Some black drama areas but still very friendly because of the colours…

Drawing with watercolours as a background is also very pleasant, it is always a surprice and it is not so difficult to put some tangles on it. I’m glad you like it!

Mooi!
