Scallamps is a wonderful tangle and easy to draw in a spiral. That is why I have chosen to use a (tan) Zendalatile. I added some Bubbles, NKD, Tipple and Z-line and made a border with Pearly. Inside I had drawn another pattern but I didn’t like it and therefore I have paint  it black with a brushpen and draw Mumsy with a whte gellypen. Beside the black and white pen, I have also used a white chalkpencil and ordinary colorpencils.

Lovely Zendala! I really like how the different tangle patterns interact with each other. Your use of paint to cover a mistake turned out lovely.

Another thing: Great idea to blacken under Mumsy before drawing it!

      Ria Matheussen says:

Thank you Anita, I like this tangle, such a nice and easy one to draw in the round. Sometimes is making spaces black the best solution to hide “a mistake”. I do that regulary.

  13. 21

Lovely zendala! The color is beautiful and the patterns go together so well!

  14. 19

Sometimes it is difficult to judge a tile’s size, but if it is a small(er) tile, you draw tiny patterns absolutely beautifully. The tile looks stunning in design, elegant colors and perfect chosen tangles. (You must have a lot of patience.)

Drawing on tan tiles gives always nice results, that is why they are my favorites. Scallamps is a tangle that looks to me allright to draw in the round. So it was an easy challenge. Without strings I began with Scallamps and than I have chosen a few other tangles to fill a bit the empty spaces. As I wrote, I was not satisfied and painted a piece black. When it was dry, I took a white gellypen to draw the uncomplicated but beautiful tangle Mumsy. Now the tile looks a lot better for me. (yes, it is true, I learned to have a lot of patience, it was not always so) Thank you Susie for your nice comment.

Ria, very nice work with the Scallamps-in-the-round. I really like it on the Renaissance Zendala with all the other tangles to go along with it. Great choice of other tangles.

It is the first time I heard about Scallamps but this is a nice and easy tangle and for me, made to draw in the round. The other tangles are also very easy to draw as a background. Thank you for your nice comment Duane.

    Melena says:

Your tile is wonderful Ria! I really like how you did it in the round with Mumsy added in the middle. That turned out gorgeous. The other tangles just add to it with just the right amount of color to make it stand out.

      Ria Matheussen says:

Thank you very much Melena. It was not really nice at first instant, but my solution was to give the tile a makeover with black and a new tangle in white, now it looks more better, (I do that regulary) and I’m glad you like the result.
Drawing with black/braun and white on tan tiles gives always pretty results, I like your compositon and your tangles are drawn beautiful.

        Melena says:

I know what you mean about making “mistakes” (things that turn into blobs LOL). I did that on mine too but you wouldn’t know it now. I really like the idea of covering it in black and using a white gel pen over it. I’m going to try that next time I need a “fix”.

        • 26
          Ria Matheussen says:

I admit Melena, I can’t see any mistakes on your tile. That is nice about Zentangle, there are always variations possible to solve the “problems”.
When you paint it black, it is important to let it dry very carefully, otherwise it is gonna be a mess (also that happened with me).

Your spiral of scallamps is very beautiful. I like the soft coloring in blue. The different impression of the center, drawn with the white gellypen, creates an interesting perspective. Real art is to change mistakes in beautiful details! Best wishes from Germany, Margarete
